Newborn Sessions are held at my home studio in Asheville, NC or at your home for an additional fee. Maternity and Baby sessions can be held at the studio or at an outdoor location of your choosing. There is a fee for travel over 30 minutes from Asheville.
Maternity sessions are really laid back and fun. I customize every single session to try to showcase your unique style and personality. So before your session I will send you an email with some questions to get an idea of what you’d like to see in your photographs. I love natural light and I very rarely pull out my flash. Since the most beautiful light is during the last few hours before sunset, I like to shoot in the evenings. I won’t micromanage you or ‘pose’ you, although I will let you know if you need to adjust or smooth your clothing or your hair. I will help you out with where to stand and which direction to face or look, but I want you to actually look like ‘you’ in your photographs.
Newborn sessions require a lot of patience. These sessions generally last from 2 to 3.5 hours. Myself, my assistant and my props are likely to get soiled during the process. It’s ok! It happens all the time! Everything we use for our sessions is washable and gets cleaned after every session. I like to make sure I style each session in a way that will fit with your personal taste and decor in your home, should you wish to display the images. So please make sure to get me a list of colors or your desired style before the session so I can prepare accordingly.
Things to keep in mind as you prepare for your session:
Feed the baby – Before heading over for your session, please put a loose diaper on the baby and give a full feeding. The loose diaper will prevent diaper lines from showing up in the pictures and a full feeding with aid in keeping the baby asleep.
Keep it small – Parents and siblings are welcome to come along for the session and be included in the pictures. Other friends and family members may not attend the session as we have limited space in the studio.
No Cameras – Use of personal or cell phone cameras and recording devices are not permitted during the session.
Make a list – Write down all the ‘must have’ shots so we can make sure we get them all!
